new year, new obsessions

new year new obsessions 2I haven’t done one of these since November…so needless to say I have a TON of new brands + products to share with you guys that I have been lovin’. With that being said, I am gonna just get into the good stuff because I have a whole lot to say about my January favorites.

One of my new years resolutions is to just get back into my skincare routine everyday—morning + night. You guys know I am a lil crazy about my skin + I’m always testing out new stuff. However, in the past few months I have actually stuck to the same products. The only thing I usually switch up with my skincare routine is moisturizer / cleanser because I’m not super picky / specific about those + like to try out new stuff. I do want to add a little disclaimer that that I have been using these specific products for up to 1 month or more + I plan to repurchase them all. I have received a few of the products from the brands but I just want to put out there that this is not an AD or sponsored blog post, I just genuinely love these products. Anyways, let’s get into it:

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3487071″]

Frank Body Creamy Face Scrub: I exfoliate my skin with this after cleansing about 3-4 times per week ++ it’s really helped even out my skin tone. I def notice a difference when I’m using it regularly. It has all natural ingredients including coffee grounds (yum), rosehip + coconut oil. Basically all the good stuff in one bottle.

GlamGlow Thirsty Mud: I honestly don’t know how I haven’t mentioned this in a blog post before but this is honestly the HOLY GRAIL of moisturizers. I use this product when my skin needs some extra TLC + feels dry. I always say this but I really believe that if you’re not super into skincare you could easily get away with using this one product by itself, it’s just that good.

Glossier Solution: This was my first time ever trying a chemical exfoliator ++ it’s seriously changed the skincare game for me. I use this morning ++ night to get the full effect and it really works. My skin overall looks brighter, clearer +++ feels soooo good. It also helps with acne!! I never have breakouts while using it. I didn’t bring this with me to Colorado and I 100% noticed a difference. Needless to say, I will be repurchasing this stuff for a looong time.

Paula’s Choice BOOSTER: I’ve been using this as a spot treatment for the longest ++ it really works. If you struggle with breakouts / redness, you should def try this product.

LANEIGE sleeping lip mask: If you’re following me on Instagram, you already know I’m obsessed with this product. It’s technically an overnight sleep mask but I wear it ALL the time. You can always find this in my purse or on my bedside table because I can’t live without it now. Makes your lips feel soo dang soft, gives me a pretty pink tint ++ plumps your lips. Did I mention it smells like berries???

Dewycel CICA Plus Balm: I had a Korean skincare brand sent this to me + not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical because I’d never heard of them BUT after one use, I fell in love with this stuff. Seriously the most hydrating product I’ve ever used +++ my skin has never felt so soft.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3496283″]

Kylie Lip Kits: I honestly never understood the hype around Kylie Lip Kits but I finally caved and went to ULTA (thank god they carry them now) ++ got me some lip kits. I have shade Koko K (more of a pink) ++ Exposed (orangeyyy tones). The formula is 10/10 + seriously smells like cupcakes. I just love how each liquid lip comes with a matching lip liner. These are the lip products I wear pretty much everyday, I switch between shades.

Too Faced Dew You Foundation: If you follow me on IG you’d know I’ve been struggling to find a good foundation for a while now. My ultimate fav is the Too Faced Peach Perfect so I thought I’d try out their new Dewy line. This stuff is AMAZING. Seriously smells like watermelons (idk why I love good smelling makeup lol). It’s full coverage but it’s meant to give your skin a dewy finish — which it 100% does. I’ve always wondered how girls can wear a full face of makeup and still have such hydrated looking skin +++ I think I found the secret. ( I wear shade Vanilla in all Too Faced products).

Wander Beauty Glotion: Wander beauty is one of my new fav makeup brands. Their “Glotion” is my favorite primer type product to apply before makeup for an extra dewy finish.

Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer: This is another product I’m behind on trying. I picked this up when I got the foundation + I love it! Smells like chocolate and has a pretty matte finish.

Too Faced Lip Injection Gloss: THIS STUFF. If you want some extra pout without actually get lip filler, I highly recommend trying this stuff out! It actually works.

[show_shopthepost_widget id=”3496284″]

Vitruvi Stone Diffuser: I’m soooo in love with this brand. I had a diffuser from Amazon before and I honestly can tell a difference with the quality in so many ways. I have the white stone diffuser + use it every single night + honestly during the day. My favorite blends right now are grapefruit, pacific + boost.

They do carry Vitruvi on Amazon but I actually have a code for you guys if you shop through this specific link you can save 20% off. You can use code vitruviXjamie at checkout for a discount!!

HUM Collagen Pop: I’ve been trying to get a better intake on my vitamins / supplements ++ one of those vitamins is collagen. Collagen is soooo so good for your skin, hair + nails. It’s actually also rlly helpful for stomach issues + your overall gut health. I honestly do notice a difference with my stomach problems when I intake collagen daily. I prefer these little fizzies because it’s SO easy + reminds me to drink water. The taste isn’t amazing but I don’t mind it!! I did notice that adding lemon helps with the taste. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of taking tons of oral vitamins so this is an easier option if you’re the same way.

Love Hair dry shampoo: OBSESSED WITH THIS STUFF. I definitely prefer the powder form of dry shampoo now that I’ve tried this. I honestly use this everyday, even with my clean hair to add extra volume + texture. It works so well + is in a small enough bottle to throw in your purse — which is my fav.

BLOGGING 101

HI LOVELIES,

It’s been a MINUTE since my last blog post so if you’re new here, WELCOME. If you aren’t new here, you’re probably wondering where I’ve been for the past two months…and to be quite honest, I just needed a mini break. Since I started my blog last May, I have been blessed with so many amazing opportunities, whether that be collaborations with brands, freelance work as a graphic designer, selling my own presets, + other random gigs here n’ there. Starting this blog has opened up so many doors and given me opportunities I never dreamed of happening, better yet, happening in the short time span of less than a year. I don’t say this nearly enough but I am so incredibly grateful for you guys for even reading this blog post right now, liking my posts, or just doing whatever you can do to support me. I realize this sounds so sappy already but I am honestly so passionate about this topic because the decision to start my blog truly changed my life.

So you might be thinking to yourself, “well, why did you start this blog in the first place?” and there’s really no short answer to that question. Honestly, if you told me a year ago today that I’d be doing what I am doing now for a job, I would 100% laugh in your face. To be real with you guys, this time last year was not a good time for me; I was incredibly depressed, lost + had no clue what my future would hold. That’s honestly a blog post in itself but to sum it up, with the help of my boyfriend and my family I was able to get through it + I started seeing a therapist. Fast forward a few months later, it was summer + I was in such a better place and I was really motivated to just do something for myself that would allow me to be creative / keep me busy. I have always been a creative person whether that be with photography, design + writing so I thought why not just combine the three and start a blog. I am also an English major and I knew I wanted to go in a different direction than teaching or the usual route, so I thought this would be a good place to start + build my resume. I actually even had a blog back when I was in high school (before blogging was even a thing, really) but I was way too afraid to go public with it so it really wasn’t an out of the box thing for me to do. I guess the only difference this time was that I had way more confidence in myself. I always have girls DM me asking “how did you deal with other people’s opinions when you first started your blog?” and honestly, I had been struggling with finding my own happiness for so long and right from the start, blogging made me so genuinely happy, and just motivated to live my life and I really don’t think anyone’s opinion could get in the way of that. Not only was I finally feeling like myself again but I was discovering myself at the same time and it was just such an empowering feeling and really kept me going. I think the best advice I have for someone who is interested in starting a blog is just to do it. Like right now…right this second. Obviously you gotta want to start a blog for the right reasons, it can’t just be for the “free stuff” or pretty Instagram photos. Trust me when I say this is a full-time job and you gotta be 100% in it for the right reasons to be successful. So if that resonates with you and you’re passionate about it then you should just do it. You have absolutely nothing to lose and if you’re only fear is that people might tease you, then just think about how they’re going to feel in two years when you’re working for your dream brand and they’re still wasting their time worrying about what other people are doing. Can’t relate…JK GUYS, that was sassy, but really at the end of the day people will judge you no matter what you’re doing, so just do what makes YOU happy. Also, you’ll probably be surprised at how much support you’ll receive because I know, I did.

OK, so if you’re still reading this, I probably convinced you to start a blog and now you’re sitting here wondering, “How the heck do I start a blog?”

Lucky for you, this is pretty simple nowadays because there’s a million different platforms and resources like YouTube, that will teach you how to do literally anything. That’s pretty much how I figured everything out myself. I use WordPress because long-term it just made sense for me with all the upgrades they offer but I know a lot of blogger gals that use Squarespace + Wix. I would just test them all out and see what you’re most comfortable with. I had prior experience with WordPress from my first blog so this was my first choice.

As for designing my blog, I was able to work with Bluchic + use their Isabelle theme, which made my life WAY easier. If you’re not super tech savvy, I def recommend using a pre-made theme. Bluchic has tons of different styles so I will be sure to link their stuff here. However, when I first started I just used a basic theme that was available on WordPress. I think the most important tip for you guys is just to start with whatever resources you have. You will learn as you go, and have more opportunities to upgrade your site, later on.

Now that you have a basic idea of how to start a blog, I am gonna answer a few specific questions from you guys about blogging:

Did you reach out to brands first or did they reach out to you?

So when I first started, I tried to get as much content as I could before I just started reaching out to brands. I made sure to have a few blog posts up + content on my Instagram to show that I was actually blogging and could offer them something in exchange for product. Once you feel confident enough, I highly recommend reaching out to brands. You might feel silly sliding into the DM’s of some of your favorite brands but you gotta put yourself out there somehow. I would use the DM’s as a starting place to get a point of contact / e-mail because that is just way more professional and will give you more room to pitch your ideas to the brand. It’s important to have a pitch ready because you have to understand that brands are constantly getting e-mails and it’s more likely that you’ll land a collab if you already have an idea in mind. ALSO, keep it noted that you will probably get ghosted / rejected by a lot of brands and that’s totally normal. It happens to everyone and honestly, still happens to me sometimes, so don’t feel bad lol. Keep posting your own content— not everything has to be sponsored. It’s almost like you’re building your resume at first. Brands will reach out to you once you have good content + good engagement.

How do you know if a brand is legitimate about working with you + not just trying to scam you?

So this is definitely something to be aware of when you first start blogging because you will most likely want to work with any + every brand that reaches out to you, and there are tons of scams out there. I think the number one thing is to make sure the brand is legitimate (google them, look for a website, read reviews, you can even look on their Instagram page and find girls they’ve worked with in the past and DM them lol — this has happened to me so it’s not that weird). One of the #1 signs of a scam is if they’re trying to get you to pay money. You shouldn’t have to pay anything. I remember when I first started, I got tons of messages like this and I actually fell for it once so trust me when I say this. If a brand is only offering you what appears to be a large discount on a product + you have to buy it, it’s most likely a scam and the quality of the product isn’t worth the money anyways. I have actually had a few girls DM me in the past, so if you’re looking for a second opinion feel free to ask because it can be hard to tell!

How did you grow so fast?

This is probably my most asked question from you guys and I never know how to give a short answer on Instagram. To be honest, the reason I have been able to grow so fast is because I’ve put a lot of my own time + work into it. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it and pretend like I just started posting pretty photos + gained a following. Since I started my blog, I have treated it like more than a job and put in hours every single day into it. Whether that be posting on Instagram, creating content, engaging with you guys, connecting with other bloggers or brands. I have always had an obsessive personality to the point where I’m either utterly obsessed with something or I just don’t care and this is just something I am obsessed with. There is so much passion behind it and just being able to express myself in a creative way keeps me sane, tbh. Obviously, there’s gonna be times when growth is slow + you will feel discouraged but it’s just important to remember why you started. It’s so easy to fall a victim to comparison when your job revolves around social media, but I think what helps me the most is just focusing on my own journey. Getting to where you want to be is great, but I think what’s even greater is HOW you got there. Nowadays, you can rush the process and buy your following but at the end of the day I think it’s way more rewarding to take the extra time and be able to look back and know that you achieved this all by yourself. That’s my honest opinion about it— there is no secret to this, it’s honestly just what you put into it.

Read w/ Me: Fall Edition

IMG_3609

I decided that a bookish blog post is long overdue and since I am currently an ambassador for the Book Sparks Fall Reading Challenge, I thought I’d give you guys a little updated book list for fall. With that being said, I’ve been getting tons of questions all about Book Sparks and what exactly the challenge is, and basically they have just been sending me fall-themed books for the past month or so for me to read and share with you guys! I have really enjoyed this experience because I love finding new authors and so far, they have all been new to me! Not to mention, I am obsessed with true-crime and that sort of thing, and some of these books seriously have the best, spooky story lines. Along with the books from Book Sparks, I am going to include my favorite fall-themed books, so I hope you enjoy this post + comment some book recommendations below!

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware:

I actually read this entire book on a flight home around Thanksgiving last year. It’s an easy read and honestly impossible to put down. I remember from start to finish, I was constantly wanting more. It’s a crime/mystery novel that takes place at a cabin in the woods so you can only imagine how spooky it is!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt:

I would consider this more of an advanced novel just because you really have to use your mind while reading it. It’s more complex but the story line is SO good and very compelling. It’s sort of a mystery/thriller.  It’s perfect read for fall!

The Night in Question by Nic Joseph:

This book was actually included in the fall reading challenge, and I have to say it stood out to me the most. It’s basically about an Uber ride gone wrong, and if that doesn’t make you wanna read it, I don’t know what will. I love the idea behind it because it’s so current and interesting. It’s definitely an easy + fun read for the fall time!

A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard:

If you’re someone who loves true-crime, then I highly recommend this book. This is a true story about a girl who was kidnapped for eighteen years of her life and survived to tell her story. She kept a diary throughout it all so it’s very interesting. This is a heavy topic and if you’re sensitive to that sort of stuff, I wouldn’t recommend reading because it gets very deep.

September Favorites

img_2911.png

So for the month of October, I am going to attempt to put up two blog posts per week (maybe more) so get ready for lot’s of content from me! I thought this would be the perfect intro into the new month with a little recap of products and favorites I was loving in September! img_2909-e1538523397783.png

img_2912.png

I am planning on doing an updated skincare / makeup routine blog post on it’s own so I just wanted to feature some of my ultimate favorites for this.

The first product I want to talk about is the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask. This has been a cult-favorite this year, for good reason. It took me the longest time to try it out (mainly because it was always out of stock) but I finally picked it up and gave it a try. I’ll admit, my first reaction was that it reminded me of toothpaste — it has a minty scent / thick texture. After using it overnight, I was amazed at how soft and moisturized my skin felt! I have fairly normal-to-dry skin so I found this stuff to be super helpful for that. Even though it’s considered a mask, I love using it as my daily moisturizer… it’s just that good!

Next, I wanted to mention a fun little brand I discovered on Instagram. I feel like I’m always seeing ads on my feed for smaller skincare/body brands similar to this so I thought it’d be interesting to give you guys a little insight on how I actually feel about their products. Anese is a skin/body care brand that specializes in booty care. Yes, you read that right. They have a bunch of different scrubs and lotions for your bum. I wanted to mention that + I will link those products below if you’re interested! However, I decided to test out their new skincare SLAY serum for your face! I have been loving this product. I usually apply it under my moisturizer before my makeup! I personally think it’s super important to hydrate your skin before applying a full-face of makeup, because it applies sooo much smoother and lasts way longer.

If you haven’t already heard of Wander Beauty, get ready for a huge spiel from me because I have been obsessed with their products! They are a cruelty-free beauty brand that carries makeup/skincare. I am planning on featuring a couple different products from them in my makeup routine but for this post I wanted to share their eye masks with you guys! They are so easy to apply, you can seriously do it anywhere! I love these.

Lastly, I wanted to mention two primers that I have been loving! Similar to moisturizer, I honestly believe in using primer. I know a lot of people have different opinions on whether or not it actually works but personally my skin needs all the hydration it can get! I notice a difference when I use primer versus when I don’t so that’s why I love it! You guys know I love Smashbox primers so I decided to pick up this Radiance once. It honestly reminds me of my Glam Glow Mega Illuminating Moisturizer, so I am super stoked about that.

Smashbox Radiance Primer

Another product that I am long overdue to test out is the MAC Prep and Prime Fix+ spray. This stuff smells so dang good and works amazingly! Personally, I can’t do my highlighter without some sort of primer spray so I really love this! It sets your makeup and leaves it looking super hydrated.

IMG_2933.PNG

This was a hard section to pick for because I feel like I am still transitioning into my fall closet and I want to a do a fall style report so I just decided to go with some accessories that I’ve been loving.

I think these KDB boots might just be my favorite pair of shoes I’ve ever owned! I am seriously obsessed with this style. White boots are so cute for fall because they bring a lil pop of color to any outfit! I am super excited to style these.

Kelsi Dagger Brooklyn Boots

Similar Style – I love these for everyday wear!

I have been meaning to pick up a mini backpack and I was so excited to find this one at Brandy Melville. This goes with every outfit and it’s SO convenient. I will see if I can find the exact link to this one but I will be sure to link some of my other favorites below.

Lastly, I wanted to mention some undergarments that I have been obsessed with. This might sound so weird to feature in a monthly favorites post but these are so comfy + amazing to sleep in! Richer Poorer also has t shirts + socks so I highly recommend checking their stuff out. Their products are super high quality and soft!

IMG_2942.PNG

I have a few different things for my lifestyle favorites but first I wanna talk about this perfume I’ve been loving from by Rosie Jane. They recently released their new scent Angie, which is a mix of honeysuckle + fig. I am obsessed! It’s the perfect light scent for fall.

Angie by Rosie Jane perfume

I am so excited to announce that I am partnered up with Olly. Olly is a vitamin brand sold at Target that I’ve honestly been using forever! I think my mom originally introduced me to their brand last year + I have been using them every since. They are gummies so they’re super easy to take daily + they have a decent taste to them. As a full-time student, I have been loving their laser focus/ goodbye stress vitamins. These are so helpful and I seriously think they make a difference!

Lastly, Califia Farms is my go-to almond milk / creamer brand. I have been using their stuff forever! I will admit I am not a huge pumpkin spice fan but every year around this time I give it another shot because I want to get in to the fall spirit. I picked this one up at my local Von’s and I was pleasantly surprised! It’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t like that intense pumpkin flavor. It’s a subtle taste, which I love. I highly recommend adding this to your fall morning routine.

Tips + Tricks: How to Make a Rental Feel More Like Home

IMG_9354

I am a firm believer that a happy environment at home can have the most positive effect on your everyday life. Similar to my own unique style and writing, I consider decorating as another form of a creative outlet for myself. As cheesy as it may sound, I think it’s so important to use your creativity in your everyday life. By surrounding myself with the things I love, I feel so inspired and motivated to be my best self. Since moving into my own place, I have been overly-obsessed with decorating and finding the perfect pieces for my little apartment, on a budget. I’ve mentioned before that as a college student, it’s so easy to feel like you’re just going through the motions and don’t have a set place you necessarily call “home.” With my own experience with renting, I’ve found that it can be difficult to make it feel like home, when you don’t exactly “own” the place. However, I’ve found that adding your own personal style, with bits + pieces of inspiration can fix any situation to feel cozier. No matter if you’re in a dorm room, apartment, or house,  I have a couple helpful tips + tricks that will go a long way into making your rental feel more like home:img_9355-e1531256243851.jpg

IMG_9503

I can’t stress this one enough…nothing makes a room feel more lonely than empty wall space. With rentals, there’s really only so much you can actually do with your space so there’s no better way to lighten up a room than with some wall art. A lot of online website are pretty pricey when it comes to simple prints, so I have a life-hack for you guys if you aren’t looking to over-spend in this area. On websites like Pinterest and Tumblr, there are tons of different prints and photos that you can print out for free…and then dress up with a pretty frame from your local thrift store. I will link some examples of prints I found online below.

Do What You Love Print

Another place to find inexpensive wall art is on Amazon. I think it just might be my favorite place to find home goods because they have so much to offer and they make it so easy for you to shop. I found this wall decal on amazon for a decent price and it was so easy to stick on-to my wall.

IMG_9575.jpg

IMG_9356Now this tip might seem a bit strange at first, but trust me when I say adding different textures to a room can seriously change the vibe and make it feel extra cozy. For instance, I have been loving the whole wicker trend. You can find wicker baskets at your local Home-Goods, or online on Amazon for a decent price. Not only are they great for storage but they can quickly switch up a space and make it feel more put-together. In my apartment, I knew I wanted to add some type of marble piece but I wanted to stray away from making my living room “too” modern, so I decided to add a wicker basket on my marble coffee table and I swear it gives the perfect balance of modern, yet shabby chic.

IMG_9509

Another way to add texture is with your throw pillows + blankets. Pillows are my favorite because they are so versatile and can seriously change the feel of the entire space. I like to do this by playing around with different prints and colors, this is definitely where you can add your own personal style and creativity.

IMG_9530.jpg

img_9357-e1531258418266.jpg

IMG_9567

This is probably my favorite tip I have for you guys and it’s so simple! Adding plants + flowers is the best way to freshen up any space. I like to find a good balance between real and artificial plants throughout my apartment because I am honestly the worst at keeping plants alive. However, I do love picking up a bunch of fresh flowers during my weekly trip to Trader Joe’s…they have the best options at the lowest price! As for artificial plants, I usually go to IKEA or Target. They’re always reasonably priced and seriously change the entire vibe of a room.

img_9358.jpg

IMG_9513

Being the coffee enthusiast I am, I had to dedicate a section of my kitchen to my absolute favorite beverage. So I decided to turn a basic utility cart into a coffee cart. This obviously isn’t a necessity but I wanted to mention it because I am seriously loving mine! It’s perfect for small spaces that are lacking in counter-space.

img_9387.jpg

IMG_9573.jpg

This might sound super cliché but it’s the little things that make a difference. I am obsessed with candles and make sure to put them everywhere. It’s a quick and easy way to make a room feel cozier. I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite candles with you guys:

Life Update – Moving, Beauty + Style

IMG_9173

IMG_9177 2

IMG_9174

These past couple weeks have been hectic…in between moving, strep-throat, and lack of WiFi, I haven’t been able to post on here as much as I’d like. With that being said, I want to give you guys an update on what I’ve been up to since we last talked. So here’s what I’d like to call a little round-up of the past few weeks, and some tips + tricks I’ve learned along the way…

IMG_9180

One not so “little” update  for you guys, is that I just recently moved into my own little place and I am beyond grateful + excited about it. Ever since I moved out to California in 2015, I have had at least 5+ roommates every year and some crazy experiences to go along with it. With those experiences, I have learned a lot about life and a whole lot about myself…one of those things being, that I prefer to have my own space. I don’t know if this is normal for a twenty-one year old to say, but I’ve realized I am the type of person who loves a clean, happy environment and that’s kinda what influenced my decision to live alone. Needless to say, I am basically the definition of an introverted-extrovert and I love having my own space but I also love being an out-going twenty-one year old sometimes, so I just felt like this was the perfect way for me to find a healthy balance. I think that’s all that really matters…it can be easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing or what seems to be the “norm” in college, but it’s so important to remember to put your own happiness first.

I am absolutely obsessed with home decor + interior design so you can look forward to loads of posts in the future dedicated to that. As for now, you can enjoy this tiny glimpse of my kitchen because I am a perfectionist and I don’t want to make a post until everything is settled in…sorry I’m crazy I know.

I’d have to say one of my favorite parts about moving so far has been being able to explore my new neighborhood and all the cool eats + drinks in Pacific Beach. If you’re ever in the area I highly recommend this little Mexican restaurant, Pueblo. My boyfriend and I both agreed they had the best spicy margarita we’ve ever had and their flatbread was to die for. Not to mention, the restaurant was killer with the aesthetics.

My second favorite thing about my new place is the short, two-minute walk to the bay. It’s only been a week and I’ve already taken advantage of being so close to the beach. I’m making it my goal to go watch the sunset at least twice a week.

During the summer, I rarely wear makeup and with that I am usually also lacking in the skincare department. Along with the fact that I am pretty much empty on almost all of my products…I am planning on testing out tons of new stuff and I will hopefully have an updated skincare routine for you guys soon. As for now, I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite beauty products at the moment.

Since moving closer to the beach, I have been spending way too much time in the sun. For sun protection, I am still loving my Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Sunscreen for my face/neck for everyday wear.

As for after-sun care, I have been obsessed with the most simple product that you can pretty much find anywhere, Aloe Vera. I keep mine in my fridge and use it religiously on my face/body and I swear it helps my skin so much.

Lastly, I recently picked up this frank + body lip balm from Ulta and I am obsessed. With other lip balms I’ve tried, I  would always find myself continuously re-applying the product throughout the day, but this one seems to do the trick. It lasts forever!

Am i the only girl who is constantly torn between growing out my hair and suddenly chopping it all off…because I swear I have the debate in my head every single day. I have been growing my hair out since January and I’ve been trying my absolute best to keep it strong and healthy. I am planning to do a blog post all about my hair and my favorite products but for now I thought I’d share the products that have helped my hair grow like no other…

IMG_9277.jpg

Recently I’ve seen tons of beauty + health bloggers rage about collagen and the Vital Proteins brand itself, so I decided to try it out for myself. Basically, collagen is amazing for your skin, hair + nails…and overall health. I decided to go with the unflavored collagen peptides so I wouldn’t get tired of the taste. I usually just add a scoop into my water or smoothie in the morning and I have seriously noticed a difference. I started using it at the beginning of summer and my hair has grown like crazy.

The only downside of growing your hair out is taming it…so i have been LOVING this detangler spray from Drybar. It keeps my hair so smooth and also protects it from heat.

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably already know that I have been LOVING the animal print trend going on right now. The whole trend makes me reminisce on that zebra print, lime green phase my pre-teen self went through. We’ve come a looong way since then and I wanted to share with you guys how I like to style animal prints in my every-day outfits.

I found this cheetah print overall dress on sale from Free People and I’m obsessed. Usually with bold prints, it’s hard to style/re-wear but this has been a staple in my closet. It’s perfect for a quick beach cover-up or if you want to dress-up an outfit. I will link everything below.

I thought I’d also mention this necklace I have been loving. I’ve teamed up with Gem and Company to share with you guys my code, “JAMIELYN20” for 20% off some jewels. I will link their website here.

I was a little nervous to put myself out there at first, but I am so happy and overwhelmed with love. Thanks for reading this post and stay tuned for more to come, xx.

My Go-To Self Care Tips & Tricks

IMG_7776.JPG

IMG_7778

I am currently in the midst of moving, which is very exciting…don’t get me wrong about that, but going from lease to lease each summer is always stressful. It’s hard not to feel like you’re stuck in the in-between stage of your life throughout college. Of course I am constantly growing, but there is always this tiny voice in my head that seems to be telling me that I should be doing more, or better. As a college student in my twenties, it’s hard not to get discouraged or worried when thinking about what appears to be the whole grand scheme of things. Especially with the significance of social media in our society today, it’s easy to compare your progress to someone else when in reality you’re only falling a victim to some strangers perception of their perfect life on a little screen. Through my own years of self-discovery and figuring sh*t out, I’ve come to realize the truth behind the fact that everyone you see online is a real person…who deals with real issues, give or take. Everyone is dealing with their own demons, and everyone handles them in their own way. Since I got back to San Diego I’ve been in the process of finding a new place and figuring out my next big step. It’s really brought me back to think about why I started this blog and what I want to share with you guys. It might be easier to share the good stuff, but I want to be real with my readers and show you that everybody has those days. Whenever I wake up feeling like the universe is far from being a friend of mine, I have a few special things I like to do. All of these things have to do with self-care, and taking that step back to really ground myself. Sometimes self care presents itself as this glamorous thing, like bubble baths or face masks & sometimes self-care just looks like going to your favorite coffee shop and reading a good book, or making a mental list of all the things that make you feel good. I am grateful for both.

img_8074-e1530138778492.jpgThis is my first, and very most important tip because I believe that everyone should do at least one thing that makes their heart happy, each and every day. Now this might be different for absolutely everyone, whether it’s a hobby or simply just watching your favorite TV show at night…I am a firm believer in “Me Time.” Through the chaos of life, it’s easy to get caught up in making everyone else happy and I’ve learned the hard way that it’s SO vital to take time for yourself. Personally, I love to write. I’ve found that it’s my best stress-relief and always makes me feel productive.

img_8040-e1530139297765.jpgOn the same topic of making time for yourself…let’s talk about working out. I have a love/hate relationship with the gym. However, I am very aware that it has so many benefits for physical AND mental health. I’ve been doing yoga on & off for years and I love it. The best thing about it is that you can either sign up for classes at a studio or you can do it in the comfort of your own home. No matter how I’m feeling before a yoga class, I always leave in a significantly better mood.

I swear there’s a song out there that can relate to any situation or feeling you may have. Good music can seriously change the world. Whenever I am having an off-day, I always force myself to clean. I know this might sound crazy to some people, but I find it very therapeutic. I love blaring my favorite feel-good songs while I try to be productive as possible. You can listen to my feel-good playlist here.

Similar to music, there’s an endless amount of books and authors you can relate to. When you’re really busy it might seem impossible to sit down and read a book but I promise you it’s the best stress relief. Not to mention, there’s so many authors out there that have moving life-stories that will inspire you and get you out of your funk. Here are some of my favorites:

Girl Boss by Sophia Amoruso — if you’re interested in fashion or being an entrepreneur, her story is amazing!

Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan— I read this whole book on the airplane back to SD…needless to say it’s amazing. It’s a true story about a crazy medical mystery. The movie actually just came out on Netflix too & it’s really good!

You are a Badass by Jen Sincero— I’m not usually one for self-help books but I will say sometimes they are necessary. I enjoyed this one because not only is it an easy read, but she has a great sense of humor!img_8043-e1530147629544.jpgI must admit…I am obsessed with Pinterest! I wouldn’t usually recommend going on social media to de-stress but it’s my absolute favorite for INSPO. I swear I could spend hours just scrolling through the app…especially in the process of moving, it’s been so helpful for my apartment inspiration. Check out my Pinterest:

All Time Favorite Books

The Wanderer Issue 1

Words have always been a safe space for me. Since before I can even remember, I would find myself venting away with the help of a pen; pouring myself across each page. It’s always been a lot easier for me to express myself on paper than in person. Sometimes I feel as though I must write it all down in order to move past it. There’s just something about putting it down on paper that feels so final to me. In some in explainable way, it always felt like someone out there is listening. I think that’s what I’ve always admired about writers is their fearlessness behind each phrase. Their courage to show the world what the inside of their mind looks like. To stand up in a crowded room and scream at the top of their lungs. There’s this element of vulnerability about it that made me fall in love with literature at a young age. The simplicity of an idea and a pen, that brings me a feeling of contentment.
